The Music Room is a boutique recording studio in Vancouver’s historic Japantown. Operated by producer, engineer, and songwriter Chad Gilmour, it gives artists a space to truly focus on their projects without the inherent pressures of a larger studio setting. The Music Room is equipped with a range of analog and digital gear, where artists can expect to achieve a modern, professional sound recording at an affordable, independent rate. Believing that any recording contains the emotions behind each performance, Chad built The Music Room to feel like home, encouraging an honest and personal recording.

Chad has over a decade of experience in the music industry. Most notably, as the frontman of Year of the Wolf and a long-standing member of the CBC Searchlight-winning group The Long War. His time as a bandmate has allowed him to work in some of Canada’s most renowned studios, including Metalworks in Toronto, Afterlife Studios in Vancouver, and Protection Island Studio in Maple Ridge. As a songwriter, touring and recording artist, Chad’s interest in and experience with audio engineering expanded over the years. This led to the inception of One Song Series, a collection of over fifty artists’ live performance videos recorded and filmed by himself and Shane Twerdun. Following the success of One Song Series, Chad and Shane founded Galaxy House Productions, a film production company focusing on music video, live performance, and documentary videos.

With The Music Room, Chad Gilmour has created a studio where artists can work within the comforts of a humble, low-stress environment. His kindness, patience, and inquisitiveness enhance this atmosphere, helping to foster unhindered expression and experimentation. As a studio engineer, Chad can quickly shift between traditional and hybrid roles, as he brings the added perspective of a songwriter, musician, and producer to the recording process.
